I've been playing (and for some periods playing alot, like capping 2 characters a week) since last September and I am burnt out as well. I was talking to a corp mate of mine today who hasn't logged onto Dust for at least a couple months and we both came to the conclusion that Dust is not the game that CCP marketed at all. It is a 16 v 16 lobby shooter.
One Universe One War ---- the Eve connection is laughable at best
Make your own battle ---- we have pub matches, glorified pub matches (FW), and the EoN ISK farm territories
We have cinematic adds that show battles vs. drones, adds with massive battles going on etc.. ---- we have 16 v 16 capture the objectives and team deathmatch.
We cannot buy installations, we do not have a battlefield commander role (which I guess BF4 will)
I really want to play the Dust 514 that was marketed, but we have a game that is not even close to that. And to make things worse it doesn't sound like we are nearer to getting even a slice of what has been promised. Supposedly PvE is "on the shelf" according to what IWS posted sometime a couple weeks or so ago. Does the dev team think balance will really matter if no one is left playing the game? Does CCP not care about what this bait and switch game is doing to their reputation?
Right now Dust offers one thing to me only and that is being a FPS in a sci-fi setting with character leveling and progression, but all that is good for is getting me to log on and get my bonus SP and maybe play a couple quick matches when I only have a little time to game. I hate to add to the Dust is dying crowd because I have defended this game for so long, but some time in Spring 2014 another FPS is coming out that has character progression in a high sci-fi setting and when Destiny launches I'm pretty sure it'll be pretty, balanced, and have most if not all the features promised. If all Dust has then is what it has now I'm sure I'll forget about it quickly.
I'm sure no one at CCP will ever read this or ever care, however, I will still lay out a simple truth to them. The only reason you have had any success as a game developer is because you occupy an empty niche in the market, the spaceship sci-fi MMO. The only way you will have success with Dust is if you occupy a missing space in the console FPS market and that is what you marketed this game as, that was supposedly the vision. Instead I feel like we have Battle of Duty in space suits and that is simply not going to cut it.
You need to stop ******* around with balance and gameplay and start making what you have marketed a reality or the all the work on balancing and gameplay refinements won't mean anything.
TL:DR CCP's development focus is way off and too slow, Dust is nowhere near what has been promised.
